Well now that I’ve finally purchased everything i think I’d want from this wonderful place, I’ll let you in on my little secret…where o where is that wonderful place where she finds janome serger feet for dirt cheap (way less than wholesale I’m sure of it) and kwik sew patterns for only $2 when we know those can get a little pricey. Well today, I purchased beading and blind hem serger foot along with 2 kwik sew patterns and a stitch in the ditch foot for my singer 401 at the buttonholeshop.com. By purchasing the kwik sew patterns from here they were about 80% off. They closed their store front so they are selling the remainder of the stock online at a super discounted rate. Their customer service is wonderful!!! Hurry get it before its gone.

My grading book arrived today and I’m so happy!! Tickled pink that the grading ruler was inside that alone made it worth every penny. The book alone is going to $60 + on amazon and that does not include the grading ruler, there so hard to find. So far the instructions seem easy enough we shall see if I’ll be able to grade a pattern in the near future. Also, I’ve been looking at hem clips today seems like they would be a great help with I need someone like DH to mark my hems for skirts because mine always ride up in the back when I stand because of my protruding area. I did however win the ruler for my Singer Skirt Marker, it was sold separately from the chalk and stand its really hard to find just the ruler and especially for that price 7.74 USD being shipped from the UK, I love when I get UK mail.

I absolutely love ebay so much! I’d been wanting a copy of the Singer Teacher’s Book of Machine Sewing, granted there are many copies out there but because I own the 400 series of machines I wanted the 400 series of the book. I finally got a copy for $18 including shipping I couldn’t find an original copy of that book for the life of me and then the one I did find was priced buy it now for $245 ouch! I can’t wait till it gets here!! I’m in a happy mood now.

Lots To Talk About

To I’ve got lots to talk about guys, decided to take a small break from studying for finals to do an update. I hadn’t done any sewing related shopping in so long 1) I told my husband I wouldn’t till my birthday (which I didn’t by the way) 2) I didn’t have any time to even see the inside of my sewing room since school. So the other day Joanns was having a christmas sale and I purchased the gutterman thread kit with a 50% coupon for $25 it came with 40 spools of thread and a June Tailor thread rack. I had bought those spools separately they would have cost $70 no thanks! Also I finally decided on a coverstitch machine, the Elna 744 (the 745 model was too much for me) at the price of $599 I’ve got to put a deposit down before Christmas to get it at that price. I’ve been looking at industrial machines but although they cost just as much as home machines, they take up too much space that we just don’t have going to a smaller place.

Also I found a bunch of vintage patterns at a local thrift store sadly my mad men inspired one was incomplete maybe I can get some help finding the missing pieces from here. I absolutely adrore it and ran to see if it was complete after seeing this post on Tilly and the Buttons. And another thing guys I also purchased the book which included an original hinged grading ruler…ahh the satisfaction of getting what I want, cost me a pretty penny though, but it was worth it because now I can grade these vintage patterns, too many of them are really cute and not my size either too small or too big….nothing is just right I can’t wait to get to doing some grading! I’ve also found a curve sewing machine guide can’t wait to get that thing I hate sewing curves!

Coverstitch

I’ve been wanting a coverstitch machine for a while now, I know I just learned how to really get into using my serger, but any way I still want one. Although I’d enjoy a top of the line one, that’s not the case so I think I’m going to purchase the Brother 2340CV machine from here because it includes all the accessory feet, which in the end will save me more money because those extra attachments are 30 + each. I found a great resource on using this particular coverstitch machine here. It seems like some people hate the machine and opted for a $1,000 plus dollar one, not me….but then others just love it…except when it comes to removing the fabric apparently the blog post at sew4fun has help people overcome this obstacle.

By the way sorry for no new post in so long…school will be over in about 2 weeks then I can sew again!!!

Update: Actually I don’t think I want the brother one, the more reviews I read the more I started to worry….people have experienced parts breaking…not something I want to deal with. So after reading more reviews its between the Janome Coverpro 1000 CPX or the Babylock BLCS-2 (there’s $250 more than the cover pro). I’m more apt to go with the Janome because its controls look similar to the Janome serger I already have and I like that well enough plus this ebay guy (recommended by stitches n seams sells the attachments for both types at a reasonable price). The only complaint about the Janome is the foot petal goes from 0-100 and no inbetween but its like my serger and I have no problems with that now that I’ve gotten the hang of things. Plus the janome coverpro is of vast talk on pattern review click here. The complaint about the Babylock is that its bedspace isn’t wide enough for bulky fabrics.

The Knee Lever

As you all know I have both a 401 and 403 (would have had a 301 too it it weren’t for that blasted person) the supposed knee lever on my 403 cabinet is the most uncomfortable thing in the world! I was thinking I should either wear a knee pad when using it or pad the lever. Last time I ended up with a giant bruise. However I discovered something today my 403 cabinet is also knee lever ready but unfortunately its miss the lever part. So I’ve been scouring ebay, but unsure which type to order hopefully someone over at the vintagesingers yahoo group will be willing to help me. As you can see the entire mechanism is there except the lever. I’ve seen on a couple of ebay auctions that I can just purchase the lever, but I’m a bit apprehensive merely because I don’t know much about them and don’t want to order the wrong one. All of them seem to be much thinner than the one in my 401 cabinet and the protrusion where your knee hits is much more defined.

Guys I’m pissed ok maybe a bit more then that I’m fuming! Yesterday I saw a 301 on craigslist for $5!!! Yes 5 FREAKIN DOLLARS! I called the guy at 9pm to let him know I’d be there to pick it up ASAP in the afternoon he promised not to sell it as guess what that idiot sold my machine to someone else…I bet it was one of those blasted quilters they make me sick! Grrrrr that’s the 2nd time I’ve missed out on a sewing machine last time it was a featherweight for $45….

Never Thought I’d See The Day!!

I never thought I’d see this day. Lady M have become a wonderful help to me as far as sewing goes. Today I went to a sewing event with her and several other ladies at a alterations meeting. I was a bit disappointed with the meeting because I thought they were going help us get a perfect fit with our slopers, but sadly that wasn’t the case. The tailor showed a couple of things regarding how to adjust a sleeve too long and although this was rather neat there was nothing of any real significance. But at any rate I was discussing with Lady M about how I can’t sew a consistent 5/8” seam allowance and she said to align the fabric with the seam guide and with a little bit of pivoting things came out perfectly consistent!
