I absolutely love blogs that contain highly useful info for me to advance my sewing skills…or refresh them (whichever comes first). I was blog cruising again and wanted to show everyone a great measurement tutorial I found on Sew Mama Sew. People out there if you don’t measure and cut correcting the results can be disastrous…trust me I’ve experienced this one time too many.

Also, please everyone visit my new favorite blog The Fabled Needle, in a sewing tutorial a while back she post how to make a BBW (Built By Wendy) dress from start to finish, its a great help to a novice sewer, but has some highly useful techniques like french seams and flat-felled seams (pictured on the right) for those of us that are more visual and need to see EVERY SINGLE STEP…LIKE ME!!

Vintage Style

So once again I was cruising craiglist and found this awesome desk and chair set for the unbelievable price of $50 (FOR BOTH) and knew I had to have it for my room… When deciding on what type of desk I wanted for the room I knew I wanted something that gave off a vintage vibe. This desk did just that with its claw foot legs and carved detailing on the drawers. So I emailed the seller and got no response for weeks and thought for sure they’d forgotten to take the ad down and sold it….but to my surprise the desk hadn’t been sold! I wanted to jump for joy! It even included the glass topper which I knew I wanted!

And just look at my vintage inspired chair I can’t wait to reupholster it into something super fabulous. I absolutely don’t think I could have even beaten this wondrous deal.  I simply can’t wait to do all the sanding, priming and painting on these pieces. Thank goodness for craigslist it has made me a happy girl!

What’s Cookin’

Being that I’ve been a wife for almost a month now I’ve been doing lots of cooking for my lover.  I do owe most of my actual hands on cooking knowledge to my other mother Sue, but my recipe skills to my mommy and grandmother.  According  to my other mother when you’ve got basic Girl Scout Skills down you can do almost anything and she was right…so these past weeks I’ve been experimenting with various recipes and adding my own flair…On tonight’s menu we have a lemon pepper chicken recipe from Eat Yet? along with creamed spinach and mash potatoes.

Doesn’t her food look yummy? For this recipe I did make a couple of changes, I used skinless boneless chicken breast for mine. Since I didn’t have any skin in which to place the diced garlic under I sliced my chicken breast just a bit and created a pocket to the center and stuffed them with the bits of garlic.  30 more minutes left on the oven…lets see what the honey thinks!

Well as everyone already knows I’ve been scouring craigslist high and low for inspirational items for my office/craft room…and boy did I get lucky this weekend. A couple was moving out of there house and had everything for SALE….CHEAP!!

This antique style chair was originally posted for $40 and due to the fact that it was the last day of the sale they were anxious to get rid of it so I got it for a steal of $20, went online last night and saw a similar chair for $350…no matter what I couldn’t bare to part with my lil chair that I plan to reupholster in either cream or an antique white and black print fabric.

And this little black table has to be one of my favorites for a mere $5 although it is in dire need of some TLC…I’m picturing it in antique white.

I don’t know if anyone else ever has this problem when it comes to thrifting, but its been extremely hard for me to find a bookcase that was REAL wood. I know laminate can be painted over, but who wants to deal with that when pieces of it are missing and such? This wooden bookcase cost me only $15 originally $300 I got the picture frames too! So all in all I got some really great stuff for a whopping $45!

Waistband

I hope I’m not the only one that has looked at pattern instructions and though they were written in a foreign language when it comes to the waist band facing. I remember when I attempted to constuct my first one using a Simplicity easy sewing pattern…I was like what the #@@!  I was visiting the craftzine blog today and came across a fabulous tutorial on Becky Blue…

Chic Wall Art Anyone?

Trying to gather more inspiration for my craftroom/office I stumbled upon this very creative wall art. I think this would look very nice in antique white and black…

Sick in Bed

Hi everyone, thought blogging would be the most useful way to spend my time since, I’m been given both husband and doctor’s orders to rest from my current infection…so today I’m going to actually attempt to begin the rowan lacy bed socks for the 100th time now since Peglett of Flock EWE taught me how to do Yo’s in Magic Loop.

However, I do hope we take a trip down to my grandmother’s house soon because my husband wants to start decorating our respective rooms (his man room, and my craftroom) and ALL my craft/sewing stuff is still there!  I don’t want the room to appear so to the average person,  while crusing around the internet for inspiration I spotted Kate of Censational Girls’ Office Makeover….ahh isn’t it absolutely amazing! When I grow up I want to have her flair for DIY and make everything pretty.

I think I want to do black, antique white, silver/stainless steel color scheme for the room.  I’ve been scouring craigslist for antique items and can’t wait till I feel better so I can hit up some antique and thrift stores. My husband wants me to make him 2-3 storage ottomans for his room (those little things are a bit pricey), I’m hoping to find some at a thrift store to simply reupholster.

That’s Hot!

I just wanted to clue everyone in on the free hotpatterns offered over at fabric.com I can’t wait to make the vest and the cowl neck top (it will be my first jersey knit top). Also if you didn’t know, hotpatterns has a ton of tutorials on how to revamp their patterns, and well as some construction help over on youtube.

I can’t wait to move so I can start crafting again… especially since I will have my very own sewing room!

I got the goods

Well after loosing out on an ebay auction on a Singer box full of 301 slant needle parts…I was feeling kinda sad (You would too if it contained some really rare attachments).  I went on etsy and uncovered this super great find to aid me in my attachment collecting:

I paid only $7 including the shipping price. There were manuals for the 401 and 404, but I’m wondering if there all pretty much reproductions of the same manual since they are all slant shank machines (like the 301).

When it comes to attachments it seems as though it is so easy to find ones for the infamous featherweight machine…grrr! But now I have my sewing machine’s bible so maybe I’ll have better luck and know what to look for now, not to mention what to ask future ebay sellers.

Vintage Attachments

As you all know I have a vintage 403 Singer Sewing machine… I must admit I love vintage attachments as well… When I got my machine I thought all the attachments looked rather odd and would be entirely too difficult to figure out and then I came across the sewing machine attachment handbook while at Barnes and Noble and I must have it, it has everything you ever wanted to know about all those attachments! Over at thisisemilykate’s blog there’s a video on just how to use the singer buttonhole attachment!

And the Ruffler Foot Video

I can’t wait to move into my house so I can get the craft room all nice and set up and try out all my attachments. I really want the Singer Deluxe Monogrammer so we can monogrammed towels in our master bathroom.
